South Asian Americans Leading Together (SAALT), a national non-profit organization whose mission is to fight for racial justice and advocate for the civil rights of all South Asians in the United States, is pleased to announce an opening for a temporary part-time Accounting Assistant/Clerk position that will be based in SAALT’s office in Takoma Park, MD.

SAALT seeks a highly motivated, organized, and detail-oriented individual for general accounting support.  The Accounting Assistant will be responsible for the following:

  • Processing Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable in an organizational database and online application
  • Data entry of financial records and transactions as well as of individual donors
  • Using or developing queries in an organizational database and financial applications
  • Importing/exporting data between applications
  • Assisting with reconciliation of bank and credit card accounts and creating monthly financial income expenditure and revenue reports

Required Qualifications
The candidate should possess:

  • Associate degree in accounting or bookkeeping or equivalent experience
  • A minimum of 3 years non-profit experience in coding expenses, Accounts Payable, and grant tracking preferred
  • Strong mathematical skills
  • Basic knowledge of accounting
  • Proficiency in the following: Microsoft Office Professional for Windows primarily MS Excel and MS Access
  • Exceptionally accurate data entry
  • Experience with office equipment, such as copiers, scanners, etc.
  • Willingness to learn new processes and applications
  • Demonstrated ability to work with confidential information
  • Work equally well independently and in teams
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and time management
  • Excellent written and verbal professional communication skills
  • Proven facility with critical thinking, analysis, and problem solving,
  • Demonstrated track record of taking initiative and resourcefulness
  • Passion for and commitment to SAALT’s mission
  • Commitment and ability to do work using a team approach with diverse staff

SAALT will provide compensation for this position at an hourly rate, commensurate with experience.  This is a contracted position, and is not eligible for benefits.
